As rumored Chase has refreshed the Chase Freedom Flex card. Changes are as follows:
- $250 sign up bonus after $500 in spend (normal bonus is $200 but changes frequently)
- Points boost when redeeming points on select hotel bookings through Chase travel. Ultimate Rewards points worth up to 10% more on these select bookings
- Cell phone protection insurance has been removed. You can view other credit/debit cards that offer cell phone protection here.
- Foreign transaction fees have been removed (were 3%)
- Card art has also been changed
Our Verdict
Bit of a nothing refresh from my perspective.

Same experience here. Oh well, in retrospect it’s not a huge deal but still a little bit of a bummer
ughh thinking whether to apply now for those extra 50 10% grocery for the entire year is never coming back ig…

Chase wouldn’t match the offer for me, even though I just received my card.
Any update? Chase wouldn’t match for me
keeping finger crossed then 🙂
yah. I realize it now. Some are just clingy
well sorry I’m young enough to move on
ok boomer.
It depends on how much you spend. This card has a $1500 quarterly cap.
people on here talk about cards you can’t get anymore all the time
Won’t expect Amex will offer any good enough retention offer. Will probably downgrade to BCE too.
My annual fee is coming up on my BCP, and I’ve been debating about keeping or downgrading. With six months of grocery guaranteed at 5%, I went ahead and applied for the Flex as well and will downgrade the BCP to see if I get an upgrade offer – if not, the BCE will be backup grocery if I max out the Flex.
Yes there is. It’s a really old card.
Yup
I just product changed, so my new card isn’t here yet. I’d need a way to use Apple Pay in a foreign currency in order to test it right now.
I’ve thought about getting this card for a while and finally took the plunge. As recently as 2 years ago $6000/year on my BCP was enough for all our groceries and some gift cards. Inflation :-/
Maybe get rid of FTF on CFU too. It would be a nice boost that wouldn’t cost Chase much at all.
I have the Amex BCP with 6% grocery, but $95 annual fee. Just applied and got approved and took it. Is it a fair deal?
Does 5/24 still apply?
Why not have both and double up on category bonuses?
I changed so that I can get a SUB on a new Flex at some point Also, I net a minimum 10% return on dining as I am always churning a CC, so 7% doesn’t move the needle It has been well over 6 years since my spend on any CC has not been for a SUB. I am always churning a new card, at all times.
The removal of FTF can be nice when they have a dining bonus category. People tend to eat out a lot when they go overseas.
Someone on DoC spotted that Freedom’s 2027Q1 categories also included Grocery, i.e. on top of 2026Q4 having Grocery.
There seem to be a lot of “no ones” on this site… Given the lackluster offers on “in market” cards (like this one), can’t blame them.
Since it seems CF to CFF PC might be possible now, per comments below, is there any reason to keep the CF if Costco isn’t a factor?
2026 Q4 will have Grocery and 2027 Q1 will have grocery again.
You must be new here. Lots of people care about the OG Freedom.
half year?
no one cares about an out of market product
