Our Verdict

We have never seen a public sign up bonus on this account (there has been many bonuses on the business checking bonuses before) but there was a targeted offer for $200. Some people might prefer to wait for a bigger bonus as we did see them increase with business checking. This deal itself is great though and we will add it to our best bank bonus page.

Is everybody eligible?

No, the terms state the following people are eligible: ‘We are currently accepting applications from Card Members with a U.S. Basic Consumer Card, additional Card Members on a U.S. Basic Consumer Card account, and customers with an existing High Yield Savings Account or CD, each issued by American Express National Bank (AENB).’

Newest-first by default, because “is it still working?” matters most.

Opened a CD, funded $100. Go to apply and insta denied after logging in. No previous accounts or bonuses received from Amex. Didn’t even get to an application page. Idk

Don’t have an AmEx CC but was considering just opening a HYSA to qualify for this promo. Is there a timeframe of how long I should wait inbetween opening the HYSA and the Checking acct? I also see DPs of people saying to open a CD instead to not lock myself out of future HYSA promos

5/11 and 6/25 were the deposits in which I initiated an ACH push from Robinhood Banking Checking. It different than the normal Robinhood App/Brokerage, it’s a fintech bank account in partnership with Costal Community Bank.

Common method mentioned here is opening a CD with $100 or so then opening the checking (my P2 did this method).

I can’t describe it “steps by steps” but it’s very simple. As you go into transfers to add/link a bank account, you have two options: something along the lines of “I am the owner” and “Someone Else”. You pick “someone else” and follow the prompts, using your own name as the recipient.

Hi, can you describe the steps by steps to do the “someone else” transfer? Thanks!

LI
LilBaws2026#2406930

Hi, what option do I choose when using “someone else”? I see “EFT to or from a bank”, “Send a wire out of Fidelity”? Thanks!

Hi, can you post steps by steps using Fidelity’s “someone else” option? Thanks!

Does Amex debit cards get Amex offers like credit cards?

i think the CD took a couple hours or less to approve, but honestly don’t remember exactly. I would wait a few days before trying the checking. i recall that 5 days was the guidance i read on DoC somewhere.

Monty I just applied for a CD and it went pending. ‘The information you provided is under review.’ I don’t have any history with Amex cc or savings either. Did you get instant approval on the cd? also wondering how long I should wait to apply for checking after I get approved for the cd (hoping I get approved) edit: i just saw where you waited a couple day between applications

that’s a bummer :/ i don’t know the best course of action from here. you might unfreeze chex or try calling to see if there is a simple verification issue. amex business credit customer service is really really easy to talk to, maybe it is also easy on the consumer banking side? good luck!

I was just denied immediately while opening for a CD while logged into closed CC account login I had years ago. Chex and other reports frozen. “We have reviewed your application and unfortu nately, we’re unable to open an account for you at this time.”

Monty#2405128

I did $100 CD and it went through. Plus, it earns a whopping 33-cents per month!

MO
Monty#2405124

I recommend opening a CD instead of a HYSA so you aren’t blocked form future HYSA promos. I opened a $100 CD with chex frozen, then was able to open the checking (also chex frozen) a few days later.

To establish relationship with Amex, if we open saving account or CD (that is also called Savings product on application page) & then try to signup for checking bonus – does it mean we can not get savings account bonus in future?

ML
ML#2405110

While opening CD , application shows Amex Savings product. Will this exclude from getting a savings bonus in future?

My bonus posted today (9/1). So it took 48 days (or 40 or 27, depending on which deposit triggered it).

How long should we wait to contact them if we haven’t received the bonus after meeting all of the requirements.

LI
Lilly#2399534

just wait or you did something? mine is since 8/18 from Fidelity, no bonus, did Fidelity to “someone else” yesterday, still no bonus.

LI
Lilly#2395739

7/17 Fidelity push $3800*2, no bonus, 8/20: (P1) pushed someone else to P1 8/21 Real DD to make it $7500+, still no bonus P2 did the same, no bonus.

I opened my account the last day offer was available but the identification system they use had a problem with my id. They called me the next day to confirm my identity then opened the account. You guys think I’d still get my bonus?

SG
sg77#2382045

There’s a few old comments from people saying they got a business checking bonus and then the personal checking bonus, so it doesn’t seem like business checking is the problem, though things could’ve changed recently.

JI
Jimmy#2381983

Same here for P2. Has business checking. Opened personal checking. Did Discover x2 $7502 total. No bonus.

Orin#2380051

i tried on the 29th and the 30th and was still telling me not eligible. out of curiosity i clicked today to apply and it was going to let me (but no bonus, since it’s dead.)
