Our Verdict
This card removed its sign up bonus back in 2016 and I’m not sure if it has offered one since. After Barclays cut benefits for military cardholders later that year it basically became useless. Points are worth 2¢ towards airfare and 1.5¢ towards statement credit so there is some value to be had here. Obviously the card doesn’t make sense to keep long term. I think things like the gifts program are long gone, but I honestly don’t know anybody that still has this card. The airline and dining credits are both calendar year so you can double dip at minimum. We will add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.
Hat tip to reader Kiwi

just applied and got approved seems like a good deal. but i heard they ship this card regular mail?
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t see anywhere in their T&C that you have to book through their portal in order to receive the $200 airline credit.
Math?
Do you like the coupon books?
T&C says so. Yeah they do
Please expand on the triple dip scenario !
Does any cc pp cover restaurants now?
Cringe or bait, call it
They spelt “dinning” (dining) wrong in the luxury concierge section…
Its barclays. Full refund within 60 Days of AF hitting
Fixed, thanks
That is not the way racism works. Please educate yourself on the topic.
Gotta check on how they treat annual fee refunds to make sure you don’t get got
Question then is do they give you points back or cash if you refund anyway?
Amex officially calls it the “Centurion® Card”, not “Black Card”. Those other things you mentioned are mostly colloquialisms.
Yeah. Why is the Amex Centurion also called the Black Card? And, why are limos usually black? And, why are dress-up events called Black Tie? And, why are profitable company said to be in the black? And, why are the darkest nights said to be pitch black?
Looking at the terms and conditions, I don’t see any mention of restaurants. It says: Primary Cardmembers and authorized user(s) are eligible for a Priority Pass Select membership, allowing access to participating airport lounges, which allows for unlimited visits for the Primary Cardmember and authorized user(s) as well as guests. Plus, the web page cites the “value” as $469, which is the same cost as the “Prestige” tier which also doesn’t include restaurants, as far as I can tell.
Good grief, its a credit card for crying out loud. I swear people have to make absolutely everything about race these days.
OK.
Might be a good one considering the $300 credits are for each calendar years so the effective af is only 99 for the first year. Also the spending req is 6000, so that’s $1215 back if redeemed for cash
No offense, but isn’t this a little racist? Why does it have to be a “black” card? Why can’t it be a white card, or a yellow card? I see a world where we aren’t divided by color. I see a world, where the color of your credit card, has no effect on who you are, and all men are created equal. Credit to the people!
This card seems like a weird hybrid of USBAR and AMEX Platinum. The benefits, airfare/dining credits and point redemption rates seem very similar to the pre-nerfed USBAR. The huge AF, low points earning and FHR-like portal bookings are like AMEX. If the points were transferable, or if they had some decent point-earning rates, this could be something.
Not positive but I think its Priority Pass includes restaurants, spas, etc.
The T&C were a little confusing for me but in case anyone else is wondering the points redemption rate for direct deposit/statement credit is 1.5x while the redemption rate for their travel portal is 2x.
I would rather pay more and get Amex plat
It earns 5x on airfare which is massive. It also offers a suite of credits which far outweighs the annual fee, even at 895. At 700 dollars a year, the black card offers you 300 dollars a year in credits and nothing to make up for it (i.e. higher earn rate on spend)
Also earns 1.5cpp cash back, so that 75,000 point SUB is worth $1,125
Considering the $200 Travel and $100 Dining benefits are calendar year, it might make a good card for triple dipping if the SUB is still around!
Amex Plat earns 1pt/$ on everything except airfare yeah? Seems that’s what Barclays is aiming for (hit or miss, different story…)
isnt the cash redemption rate 1.5 cpp if one chooses that over flight redemption via their portal?
