Our Verdict
Hasn’t been posted on DoC before so please share your experiences in the comments below. Seems like a great bonus and worth doing though. You can view ways to meet debit card transactions here. We will likely add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

Super Pirate formerly SP 🔗 Disputing Chexs Inquiries are always a hit or miss. I try to dispute for 4 inquiries from different banks and 3 of them has moved to “View only by you” section. Unfortunately, the last bank they ran my records for multiple times during the accounting opening cannot be moved. I didn’t give them any details for the dispute but they remove it anyways.
Michael How do you do that? Chexsystems denies every time I try that. LOL 😀 What is the justification you give? Every time they respond citing lexis Nexus report etc. and it was genuine inquiry. Your inputs much appreciated mate 🙂
I opened the account on the last day of the promotion. It went quite smoothly tbh. I thought they will question a lot and deny my application based on the DP below. They will pull chex and soft pull your credit as well. I am not reside in the eligible areas but I successfully open the account remotely. One-time membership fee is $5 and Hertiage CU will help you pay the $8 for the first year if you join them through Financial Fitness Association.
Approved! In-branch, in state but out of field, Financial Fitness Association, needed Chex unfrozen and pulled it, moderate questioning of recent accounts, needed manager approval.
Denied too many inquiries.
They first requested I provide a selfie while holding my ID. I did that and then received email stating that I was conditionally approved but needed to meet with a banker in branch. I declined and withdrew my application
LOL.
Hello Lee! Unfortunately, I will not be applying until closer to the expiration date (9/30). Four Leaf FCU left me with an unexpected hard pull, bumping up my Chex numbers to 2/1, 3/3, 6/6, 7/12, 8/24. I hope they don’t pull this one early!
I sent multiple messages, and finally after 11 days they rejected my application. No notice, I had to check the application status.
Time to find a new P2?
Tony Very useful DP. Thank you. I was thinking of having P2 apply, but there’s no way she would drive 6 hours each way to Sacramento for $500. She wouldn’t even drive to a branch 1 hour away within So.Cal. for a $1,000 bonus.
Bubz Yeah it’s very unprofessional not to inform the customer of an application status even by email – quite ridiculous actually. Congrats on the BOH approval, though!
Same, don’t waste your time. No courtesy of sending a decline email. Only way I found out was checking app status. Not in footprint, selected FFA affiliation. Chex. ~8 inquiries since May 8th, surprisingly just got approved for BOH yesterday
Hey Tony, Thank you for this very important piece of information. Like you, i am also hours away from the closest HCU branch. You saved me a chex hit b/c I will not be applying for a HCU acct now knowing what you have told me. Again, thank you very much for a sharing this good 2 know information.
After sending ID/selfie they said I am required to come into their branch to finalize the application. I will not be pursuing this further as the closest branch is hours away.
Hi Tony, Can you provide more information about what questions were asked regarding your ChexSystems report and your answer to the question; what is your intent since you are not in their footprint?. Also, what did you select for your membership eligibility ? Myself, I am OOF in state and my chex hit #’s are 1/1, 1/2, 2/3, 3/6, 5/12. TIA
They emailed me to get in touch. We had a 20-minute call probing ChexSystems and my intent since I’m not in footprint. Required me to unfreeze Chex (hard pulled) for them to proceed. Required me to unfreeze Experian (soft pull) for them to proceed. Now “reviewing with back office” and planning to request more info/ID via email.
Agreed
Transactions that are clearly cash-like?
Oof… Yeah it does a bit, lmao Yeah, the instant approval is a good sign at least!
snailrock Any time, happy to help. I can say with certainty that I get at least 4-5 Chex hits per month, if not more, so hopefully that sheds some more light. Its more than likely my Chex – I think if you have something like 1-2 per month like you mentioned it might be worth a try if you’re in CA.
I mean that’s fair, but if you apply for 7 a month that’s very different from like 1-2 a month… Thanks for answering. I wonder if being OOF influenced the reversal
I don’t monitor my Chex by specifics, but it’s LOL across all time points /1 /3 etc. I’m in Los Angeles
Could you share some specifics on your Chex, /1 /3 etc? And are you in-footprint/state?
I applied morning of 7/11. Status showed “instant approved” right after submitting application. About 2-3 hours later the same day, I check the application status and it showed “denied” I have lol Chex
Hi aRLYniceguy, Thanks for the reply to my question, very much appreciated! Will you post if you get approved for your new HCU acct app?
² Debit Card Bonus: Earn an additional $200 when you complete 40 qualifying debit card purchase transactions within 60 days of account opening. ATM transactions, person-to-person payments, returned purchases, and other non-purchase transactions do not qualify I wonder what that may exclude?
I will be signing up for the Financial Fitness Association this week. I’m also an in-state resident, but not in those specific counties.
Imagine if all the people who worked at grocery stores knew they could make an easy $200 minus the cost of 40 🍌. way better than the usual pay for the same work.
Hi aRLYniceguy, When you go to apply, what will you use for your membership eligibly? “ Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, and San Joaquin Counties, or have a family member that lives in one of these counties. Also, any California resident who is a member of our affiliated organization, the Financial Fitness Association.” TIA
