Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
$20 if closed within 6 months.
Our Verdict
Looks to be a relatively easy bonus, doesn’t seem to be any terms that state it has to be payroll specific. Hopefully it’s not Chexsystems sensitive. Referral program no longer offered.

“Offer is limited to individuals who have not owned a Travis Credit Union consumer checking account within the last thirty-six (36) months”
I applied Feb 2025 and got denied. When I tried it this time, the website says there is a previous application associated with my ssn, and I was automatically denied, again.
I’m be incredibly curious to see a list of banks that have declined or rejected Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek 🔗 he’s so prolific in this game.. perhaps the GOAT.. knowing which banks / credit unions have rejected or declined you in one list.. that would be an awesome reference.. if you can’t open it.. then probably most of us LOL/12 can’t either. <3
It’s also not worth copy & pasting the same comment back to back…
It’s absolutely not worth the $450 bonus if you have to deal with this ridiculous bank. Even after you complete the online verification, they’ll randomly lock your account a couple of weeks later and make you go through identity verification all over again. Customer service has insanely long wait times, and their fraud department is the most paranoid and bureaucratic I’ve ever encountered. They even made me go into a branch to verify my SSN and address just to prove I was eligible for the promotion.

Denied after entering in debit card to apply, no chex was pulled
Also denied just now, in eligible county. No reason provided for denial.
Gonna try it with Sofi push
Denied in eligible county =[ 2/1, 4/2, 5/3, 6/4, 6/5
The current fine print does not say that all electronic deposits count as direct deposits.
There’s something humiliating about being denied access to a bank account, in general. And yes, I know they have costs involved in providing banking services; but still, as an account holder, you’re entrusting them with your money. So when a bank or CU turns you down for an account, they’re basically saying they expect you to have so little money that they can’t earn enough on your money to cover the costs associated with watching it for you and allowing you access to it. And that’s after taking into account the fact that they can usually charge crazy high fees if your account balance isn’t high enough (thus causing you to bounce checks or fall below account minimums).
Has someone in California, not in the listed counties, been able to apply and be accepted and receive the offer? Headaches, road blocks, referral not needed?
can anyone confirm if ally push or other ach push still works?
I’m sure if you leave your email, someone will send you a link, if I can’t get to it.
Hi Charlie, I would also appreciate a referral.
Qualifying direct deposits are payroll or other personal income such as paycheck, pension or government payments (e.g. Social Security) via the Automated Clearing House (“ACH”). Direct deposits processed as a Debit Card or Credit Card credit or via Account to Account or Peer to Peer (e.g. Zelle®, Venmo) transfer or external bank ACH transfer not from employer do not qualify.
Please send referral to this email address: richooyue @gmail.com Thanks in advance!
done
Denied in CA out of eligible counties with Chex frozen.
So its not CA, but part of CA: Solano, Yolo, Contra Costa, Merced, Napa, Alameda, Colusa, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sonoma and Stanislaus countie
To join Travis Credit Union, you must live, work, worship, or attend school in one of 12 California counties: Solano, Yolo, Contra Costa, Merced, Napa, Alameda, Colusa, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sonoma, or Stanislaus. Military and civilian personnel at Travis Air Force Base and immediate family members of existing members are also eligible. I applied OOS and said I worship in an eligible county but was ultimately declined, may or may not be a result of my chex looking like a warzone, but curious if they verify eligibility: “We’re sorry Thank you for your interest, but we are unable to approve you for a Free Checking account. Should you have questions concerning the reason for decline, please contact us at (800) 877-8328 or visit any local Branch office for assistance.”
I would greatly appreciate a Travis CU referral . Please send referral to this email address: bmwnla8@gmail.com Thanks in advance! Lee
