Newest-first by default, because “is it still working?” matters most.

FYI, unlike the hotel credit, this works just by booking a refundable fare, waiting for it to post, and cancelling it. I got $100 this way.

Anyone knows if this is just one time benefits(for one year) or if this is the standard benefit that will be available after the 1st year? Thanks.

Michael just wanted to clarify you purchase a 250 AA e-gift card prior to July 1st and another after July 1st? Thanks!

American Airlines gift cards worked for me to trigger the credit. I did one last week and another one this week. Credit was available when the transaction posted.

I did a single (refundable) flight booking that United posted as two transactions, a $199 booking + $53 Economy Plus seat. The credit did apply.

Anyone who got this card between late January and May this year, if you got the $50 back on the airline purchase over $250, did you need to activate the offer first?

I did 2 extra legroom seats upgrade on Alaska air for a Hawaii trip – the 2 combined > 250 and I did get the $50 credit. I may have to try the gift card for the 2nd half of the year though. AMEX had told me that Alaska Air codes seat upgrades as tickets, not seat assignment (tried for a different credit on Platinum Bus) AMEX transaction showed ‘Alaska Air Gift Cert’ on January statement so I’m not sure that would work.

From their FAQ website: “Only purchases for airline tickets made directly with the airline will qualify. Other air travel-related purchases will not qualify; for example, in-flight purchases, the purchasing of airline miles or points, non-ticket purchases made within the airport, and airline tickets purchased through travel agencies, discount travel sites, vacation clubs, tour operators, or tickets booked as part of a travel package offered by non-airline merchants. See “Flights and hotels booked direct for Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve, & Sapphire Reserve for Business” on this page for information about the “flights and hotels booked direct” category for those credit cards.”

purchasing a P1 flight using a P2 card triggered the $50 bonus.

Sean Did you succeed with this? I’m trying to collect more data points around this unique offer to us holding the Bonvoy cards. Thanks!

I have a similar question but regarding purchasing TravelBank funds for P2, using P1 card. Montgomery Did it work for the flights purchase for you?

Reddit. But also I did it with Alaska on a refundable fare and haven’t seen a clawback

Has anyone tried doing transactions smaller than $250? Would love to know if the credits applied – thanks!

JA
Jarrett#2270973

Yes. The offer has no bearing on who the flight is for.

JR

My $250 TravelBank purchase triggered a $50 refund to Marriott Bonvoy card the same day, impressive!

Has anyone cancelled after making a flight purchase? Does Chase clawback the credit?

JA
James#2250247

It says “$250 or more on eligible purchases” (plural) from January 1 through June 30, 2026, and the same for the second half of the year. I wonder why they didn’t use singular phrasing instead if it has to be a single transaction.

This is low key the best advice in this post because I’d given up and presumed my card was truly not eligible because it’s 6-7 years old. Worked after multiple tries!

If P1 gets this card, but purchases an airline ticket for P2’s (using P2’s name), will P1 still get the $50 airline statement credit?

As long as it’s been 2 years since you earned the welcome bonus and the upgrade to the ritz has been a few business days then you should be fine to apply and earn the welcome bonus again
