Today Citi has added Japan Airlines as a transfer partner. The rate you receive depends on the card you hold:
- Eligible cardmembers with an annual-fee card can transfer 1,000 ThankYou Points for 1,000 JAL miles.
- Eligible cardmembers with a no-annual-fee card can transfer 1,000 ThankYou Points for 700 JAL miles.
Through October 24, 2026 a 30% transfer bonus will be offered bringing the rate to:
- Eligible cardmembers with an annual-fee card can transfer 1,000 ThankYou Points for 1,300 JAL miles.
- Eligible cardmembers with a no-annual-fee card can transfer 1,000 ThankYou Points for 910 JAL miles.
Japan Airlines has recently offered a lot of transfer bonuses: Rove miles (50% and added as a transfer partner), Bilt (up to 125%) and several capital one bonuses.

Per JAL support so far. Regarding your inquiry about whether transferring points from Citibank could shorten the 60-day waiting period, we are currently consulting with the relevant department to confirm if any special exceptions apply to Citibank cardholders. We will get back to you with an update as soon as we receive confirmation. We sincerely apologize for the delay and appreciate your continued patience and understanding.
Same here. If anyone has good ideas please share. Partner availability is abysmal.
Despite the marketing of JAL miles by websites like thrifty traveler, the partner availability is abysmal even for Economy 🙁
Love JAL flights. Don’t like their huge tax and fees when redeeming miles.
Lowly thankyou points better than UR and even Bilt. Wow, just need a transfer bonus to AA and citi will be overwhelmed with apps.
This is a terrible expiration policy, which is relatively common in East Asia. EVA I am looking at you!
it’s 3 years unextendable, expiration is tied to specific batches of miles
Capital One needs to just change it to 1:1, it’s embarassing.
Citi is now the top points currency for airlines. AA and JL at 1:1. I love winning!
But it is TRUE! ARE YOU TIRED OF WINNING YET?
It’s worth noting that this post ended up being correct: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/jal-showing-as-travel-partner-on-citi-thankyou-loyalty-partner-page-transfers-incoming/
3 years isn’t so bad, good to know though.
If only I could figure out how to use all of my JAL miles from when I was worried about a large Bilt balance before they expire!!!
…if true.
Me like-y.
3 years as a reminder
please remark on their silly expiration policy to protect people from doing speculative transfers
HUGE!
