Our Verdict
Normally the terms say you must have been an existing customers by X date, I don’t see that this time but possible I’m missing it. These bonuses are more straight forward than normal as well as normally the checking bonus needs a recurring direct deposit and the savings offer needs funds maintained for a certain date, meaning you need to time when you open the account. This time you the savings bonus just requires funds be held for 90 days and checking bonus requires $1,500 in direct deposits (can be single or multiple but doesn’t require them each month).
Bonus tiers have an annualized return as follows:
- $350 bonus: 5.8%
- $650 bonus: 5.38%
- $1,000 bonus: 4.12%
Savings account does earn 3.05% in addition to the above as well though. Last time this was offered you’d earn $900 for completing the lowest savings tier and the checking bonus so this new bonus is lower ($750 total). This is still worth doing and we will add to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

Wow! Thank you for this comment! I opened my SAVING account in 2023 and closed in 2024 – same as you. I never had a CHECKING account. I read your comment that you could still login, so I tried. I could still login as well and my profile was there, with no open accounts. I used that to apply for a new CHECKING account and was auto-approved.
I hope you have more than $1.30 in it. LOL
Because I wasn’t sure that just making a profile was enough to be a “client”. “ This offer is only available to existing Ameriprise Financial investment clients and employees of Ameriprise Financial, Inc. and its affiliates…”
Why open PSA in 4/22 when you could have simply created a profile with https://www.ameriprise.com/new-client-setup/get-started and let it rest
I’m sure you can still go ahead and create your “account” no? I’m just not sure if we need to then open a brokerage account or something before the banking stuff.
No open accounts. Just an active login.
I was about to “sign up” but this gives me pause.
I think the problem now is that they tweaked the terms to indicate you need to be an investment customer or some such. I haven’t fully researched how exactly we could qualify at this point.
Is this offer still valid? Not valid as of August 21st? Do we need to be a customer beforehand? I am confused about the offer terms. Thanks.
Here’s another post that has more DPs: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/existing-customers-ameriprise-up-to-900-checking-savings-bonus/#comments
I didn’t realize the fine print stated bonus would post within 14 business days. I see that now. Sounds like you just need to do a real payroll DD then. I hope you felt cool typing your condescending part lol.
Chase Biz ACH deposit didn’t trigger the bonus. Are you new here?
Why are you saying it “didn’t work”? That seems like a completely normal description/posting for Chase Biz.
Chase biz does not work for me. Any findings on mimic DD?
Self Chase Biz pushing through ACH didn’t work though labelled as “ACH DEPOSIT my name PAYROLL”. It was done 40 days ago.

I’ve been more selective about applying for things for a while now. I posted my Chex numbers when I opened the Checking account. #2360320
It looks like to open an any investment account you have to go through an Ameriprise financial advisor.
Lucky bugger! Dont have you have a high chex inquiry? I was declined for a checking account today due to chex after opening up a client id over the phone
Called and applied for a “client id” over the phone (Which is a quasi membership), was given my id within 10 mins then applied for a checking account after I logged in. Was declined and given an email quoting chex ” We are not able to approve your application “. Chex is lol/24.
Does anyone know if I can just join or open a brokerage account or whatever would make me qualify as an Ameriprise financial investment client?
It seems that the language re eligibility has changed. Now there is no mention of being an existing client during the “Offer Period”, and it specifies that you must be an “existing investment client”. This applies for both offers. This offer is only available to existing Ameriprise Financial investment clients and employees of Ameriprise Financial, Inc. and its affiliates.
My comment about 3 Chex hits max in last two months was about FNBO specifically, but yeah, I knew Ameriprise was really picky too on Chex.
I was declined with 3 inquiries in the last 2 months, I posted my Chex numbers above.
Approved for savings but (as I kind of expected) was declined for checking. Chex numbers are time of app were (inquiries/months): 2/1, 3/2, 4/3, 9/6, 13/12, 24/24, 37/36. They have no way to do a manual review or reconsider.
Oof. If that’s the case, then I need to wait until October.
I actually plan to wait until after 9/18 at this point to try for FNBO. Apparently you need basically 3 Chex hits max in last two months to get approved for them. So, I will do Ameriprise sometime after that lol.
How long will you wait for Chex to improve? Thinking I need to do the same thing. Lol
I haven’t tried yet. I won’t be doing it for a while because I’m waiting for my Chex stats to improve. I may even be waiting longer than I originally thought on this because I think I’m gonna go for FNBO first actually.
Did you get denied for chex? Curious to see how this works out!
