- $300 for a $20,000 balance
The Fine Print
- To qualify for the bonus, make your $7,500 in New Money deposit(s) directly to the new Account in the form of a personal or official check from another financial institution, an incoming wire, ACH credit, Online Banking external transfer, or external funding of a new Account opened through boh.com within 30 days of account opening.

- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
These accounts has no monthly fees.
Early Account Termination Fee
Unsure if there is any EATF or not.
Our Verdict
These accounts earn 0.01% APY so basically nothing. This bonus works out to be an additional 6.4% APY annualized, so not really worth doing compared to other basic high yield accounts in my opinion.

On 09/16, they further emailed me to say, “Stay on track to earn your savings bonus” “You‘re getting closer to your cash bonus. All you need to do is…nothing! Just maintain…etc.” Hope you/your P2 will receive a similar message soon.
I may have dodged a bullet. After doing a little digging around I found this: “The account open date is considered day 1. For accounts opened on the weekend or a federal holiday, the next business day is considered your account open date.” So you were definitely right about the opening date is day 1. But I got lucky because I opened on the 29th which was on a Saturday. So essentially my opening date is on the 31st. And that is when the first transaction for the $100 opening deposit shows. Also I just had my first statement post and it does not show anything from before August 31st. So hopefully I will be able to get my bonus. If not, this will be a lesson learned to not try to cut things this close.
Central time zone but 8/12 was definitely my open date! 8/8 Applied and received “You are on your way! Thank you for submitting your Bank of Hawaii Application!” email 8/10 Received “Your Bank of Hawaii Account is Almost Open“ 8/12 Received “Welcome to Bank of Hawaii” which said I have opened: “Regular Savings ending in XXXX (Open Date: 08/12/2026)”
Already did that one; gotta stick my money somewhere to make more! LOL
The annualized APY is for the bonus itself.
If you sign up for the Bankohana “plus” account, the one that earns 3.25% APY, that one is NOT elgible for the $300 bonus. Only the 3 lower savings accounts are elgible for the $300 bonus. Those each earn .001-.002%.
You may be ok. The “specialist” I spoke with had to put me on hold a couple times to consult with someone else, and her final answer didn’t sound assured. I’d contact them after the conversion is complete and see if they’ll confirm the promo’s still attached.
sk9879 Ah thanks for the heads up. CS assured me that I would still qualify for the savings bonus, but the digital sales specialist is probably right that changing my account would unenroll me from the offer. My account hasn’t been converted yet, they said it would take 48-72 hours. I’m debating whether to call in again to ask them to add a note to my account based on my conversation with CS, or just prepare to dispute it later if I don’t get the bonus. But definitely, this information is useful for others.
I just spoke with their general customer service who transferred me to a digital sales specialist (Sherry), and she said (after putting me on hold to confirm) if you are currently enrolled for the $300 bonus with a Regular Savings account and convert it to the Bankohana Bonus Rate Savings it will nullify the bonus. This is a good heads-up for Bankohana checking account holders that haven’t yet opened savings though.
these produce names are so ridiculous.. thanks for legwork and informing us!
I spoke to CS and they told me that I have to change my Regular Savings account to the Bankohana Bonus Rate Savings account if I want the $20,000 deposit to count towards waiving the fee for the Bankohana Level II Checking account. Fee schedule: https://www.boh.com/siteassets/files/retail-deposit/consumer-checking-and-savings-fee-schedule-20260727.pdf Addendum describing the qualifying accounts: https://www.boh.com/siteassets/files/retail-deposit/bankohana-level-i-ii-iii-addendum-20260727.pdf
existing checking customer-no chex 08/09 applied regular (basic free savings) lowest tier savings 08/11 opened Will deposit 20k within 30 days. 20k in a 4% HYSA for 60 days would net approx.$133-$134 so this works out to be $165 ish more if you can afford to tie up the funds for 60ish days Need to deposit $300+ ASAP as the account has a $300 daily average to avoid $5 mo./fee
Limit one savings bonus per Account per customer. If a customer has received another savings offer in 2024 or later, they will not be eligible for another savings offer.
Do both lol.
https://web.archive.org/web/20260215230304/https://www.boh.com/personal/bank-accounts/pr/savings-offer Much worse
I’m considering this offer, but $300 @ $20k with 60 day hold is not nearly as attractive as the USB business savings $300 @ $10k with 30 days
Doing the $20,000 Savings offer should waive the $25 fee for Bankohana II Checking: BANKOHANA LEVEL II CHECKING Minimum opening deposit: $500 Monthly Service fee: $25 † Combined Balance Requirement to avoid monthly service fee: $20,000 †The monthly service fee may not begin until after the first full statement cycle after account opening.
were you approved or did you need to mail docs? not worth mailing docs lol
What was the $7500 bonus? Thanks
Yeah probably it was because of the existing customer thing. May not be a good idea to try that with this bank for new customers given past experiences
Thanks for this.
William Charles Revamped savings offer: https://www.boh.com/personal/bank-accounts/pr/savings-offer Hold time is down to 60 days New tiers: $75 for a $5k balance $150 for a $10k balance $300 for a $20k balance All the tiers have the same 9.125% annualized APY.
Although this isn’t a good return I still went ahead and opened account with Chex frozen as I already have a checking account with them. Not sure if a new customer could do the same with chex frozen.
Back at $7500 deposit required
Is there a way to contact them other than by phone? P2 doesn’t like being on the phone, and we need to close the checking account to stop the monthly fee
My savings account was 4% up until Friday. 🤷♂️
Why?
Yeah OOS is fine and you will most likely be instantly approved but 50/50 chance it gets locked after 2 weeks and you have to send a notarized id passport and bank statement of initial funding. Once they get that they’ll unlock it a week later. Best to combine this with the $400 checking bonus to make it worthwhile if you get hit with extra verification.
Found the checking bonus page. OOS is possible but they assume OOS applicants are fraudulent and force you to mail notarized docs also I cancelled the app so hoping I can dispute the Chex pull
That’s it, I’m just gonna spam “OOS DP?” from now on. I tried to check for myself whether OOS address works by just going a few pages into app, but after putting in my address on like only the second page, I got an OnAlert for a Chex pull. Now I’m committed to a shitty churn
