The Fine Print
- To qualify for the $250 cash bonus, you must open a new Everyday Checking account and, within 90 days of opening, set up a recurring qualified direct deposit of at least $500 or more and 10 point-of-sale debit card transactions (purchases with your debit card).
- A “qualified direct deposit” is a direct deposit of a paycheck, pension, Social Security, or other eligible monthly income, electronically deposited by an employer or outside agency into your new checking account.
- Person-to-person and bank transfers do not qualify.
- Cash bonus deposited directly to the new checking account within 30 days of qualifying.
- Account must be in good standing at the time of issuing the bonus.
- Limit one cash bonus per customer.
- The cash bonus is subject to 1099 reporting.
- Offer expires 7/31/2026
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict
Kust keep in mind there is at least one report of them being ChexSystems sensitive. I will be adding it to the best bank bonuses. Previously this was a $300 bonus (back in 2018) but it required opening in branch.

DP: Was able to open online from the U.P. of Michigan w/o issue. Sometimes some of these “MI” offers don’t work as in the past like KeyBank despite being told it’s available to MI residents. Some only work in the L.P.

Guy above said he used Cash app loads and bonus didn’t post until he went back and did PayPal loads. Saw another guy did Amazon reloads at .50 each. I had used Cash App and was waiting – just went back and used PayPal.
How long did it take for the paypal transactions to reflect in the balance of your checking account? I did 5 reloads on 8/4 and as of today 8/6 I still don’t see the transactions on my horizon e-banking ledger. Thanks

I did 10 cash app transactions I think that might be the reason

Here’s another DP. Was approved online OOS obviously, but have vacation property in their footprint. Used that address obviously. They asked for a utility bill and my passport which I provided and was approved in 30 minutes. Probably opened one account per month this year, but not all of these banks used Chex.

The fine prints say “Set up a recurring direct deposit of $500 or more”. Does it mean I have to set up direct deposit in my Horizon bank account? I set up a recurring direct deposit in my Sofi checking account to my Horizon checking account, and the $500 DD was sent twice (once a week) to my Horizon bank account. I have not used Horizon bank debit card yet to fulfill the checking account bonus. Do I need to set up the recurring direct deposit in my Horizon bank account to qualify for the bonus?

Applied with Chex Frozen last night. Today got a call from online account opening team that I need to unfreeze Chex I might try it next month
OOS application gives a message address not in supported area after you enter name, email, then address. I didn’t enter SS# or drivers lic. so should be safe for people to see if you are in service area without a chex hit.
