Deal has ended, view more bank account bonuses by clicking here.
Note: This offer doesn’t contain targeted language. Commerce Bank offers usually do. I’m not 100% sure Commerce Bank won’t enforce targeted language even though it’s not present so YMMV. Might also be a $500 bonus you can do.

Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Monthly fees are waived for the first 60 days according to the terms. Free checking also has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
According to this comment no early termination fee is charged.
Our Verdict
Obviously a bit of risk involved even without the targeted language, but I think for $1,000 it’s worth going for if you can meet the direct deposit requirements organically. Will add this to our best bank account bonuses.

I recall reading somewhere for another referlive bonus (or maybe this one) when someone opened in branch, a banker possibly registered them under their own referral since they received an email about the referral bonus right after they opened in branch. Kind of shady.
Did you try current ?
Siva Thank you. Yes, that’s rather high for most FIs.
RM Sure, P2: 1/1, 9/6, 21/12.
Siva Can you share P2’s Chex? Family member opened in branch last week with 0/6, 6/12. Now I am wondering whether she should worry.
Another update.. Originally P1 opened online and had it shutdown a few days later.. Opened with P2 in branch. After a few weeks, received a phone call that the account would be shut down.. Received a letter in the mail for chex. So both methods are chex sensitive..
I think since it’s a different promo code it would be considered a different offer. P2 had a targeted $300 mailer in December 2024 from Commerce and he opened the account – and I saw the $700 offer on Facebook and opened in March 2025. P2 and I had overlapping account time frames but both bonuses paid out.
It’s probably normal, last year when I opened in branch, the banker told me she would need to enroll my account for the promotion a couple of days later. She didn’t mention the form, but it did sound like a manual process instead of automatic.
OOS, opened in branch. chex required. 2/1. 3/2. no issue. after the account was opened, I reminded the (new) banker about the promo code. banker called someone and told me that they would fill out a form after i left to apply the promo. is this process normal? will the promo code still apply correctly if it wasn’t added DURING the application? Hopefully the manual addition of the promo code doesn’t mess anything up. it’s quite a bit of money to have to DD in the hopes that it works.
According to previous experience, registering via ReferLive link before opening in branch stacks the two promotions. Last year P2 used my referral, we both received the Referlive Giftcard, and P2 received the $1000 main bonus without any issue. However, both P2 and I are in footprint. I am not sure how chex sensitive Commerce Bank is for OOF/OOS applicants. I do recommend open in branch though, as Commerce Bank tends to close accounts that are opened online. If you’d like to try the stacking, register via a referral link using the same information that you want to use to open the account in branch (name, address, email, etc) before going to the branch, Referlive tracks the account opening with these Information.
Do you think this could work to stack referral and $1000 promo if applying in branch but live OOS/OOF? how do i register the referral? thanks
Thanks for the info. P2’s stats at time of application were 0/1, 4/3, 9/6, 15/12, 27/24
Every entry in the “Viewed By Others” section is an inquiry. The “Viewed Only By You” section does not count. The LexisNexis statement does not matter. Assuming you counted only the Others section, then that is indeed a relatively high Chex count that shows that this FI is not sensitive. Thank you for the DP.
You motivated me to actually check my Chex. I’m assuming every entry is an inquiry? Does it matter if the Lexis Nexus statement is below the entry? Counting everything, here are my Chex stats at the time of application for this account (not counting the inquiry from Commerce). 0/1, 6/3, 9/6, 17/12, 31/24
Bob Curious whether you tried online from Chicagoland and what happened.
Yes
Weapon I don’t mean to nitpick, but it’s highly likely that you are not anywhere near LOL Chex. Most fintechs and many traditional banks don’t pull Chex — they either pull EWS, soft pull your credit, or do something else. I am not trying to dismiss your DP — all DPs are helpful — but this would be vastly more helpful with actual Chex numbers from your online Chex profile.
Ash G Are either of you in footprint?
same
Opened online. Shut down and few days later due to chex.
Before I unfreeze Chex and apply from Kentucky, how does DOC know which states it is available in? I don’t see anything in the terms about it.
Opened joint account with P2 in branch today. Both unfrozen Chex and credit. Both lol/24 Chex. I don’t monitor my Chex report but I’ve applied for a total of 18 accounts in 2026 including fintechs, credit unions, and traditional banks. Anyway, account opened without issue although the process did take almost an hour.
My account was closed a few days after the opening deposit was credited.
She wasn’t targeted, although I think we had seen FB ads. We actually gave up on the bonus after reading all the negative stories, but the $700 showed up one day.
Joe I’m not sure on the answer to your question but I am wondering if your P2 was targeted for the earlier bonus or you got the bonus without being targeted. Planning to apply for P2 this week in branch.
Anyone know if this would be considered a separate offer from the $700 bonus they had awhile back? Just wondering about the household limit, since P2 already did the $700 bonus.
RM Thank you! Will follow this advice..
Siva I wouldn’t risk it. You have a P2 option, so do that. This bank is notorious for trying to weasel out of paying. It’s hard enough to get money out of them when you are on solid ground. P1’s argument would be an uphill battle if the account really was open (i.e., you had an account number etc.).
RM Thanks! That’s super helpful. Regarding P1 trying again in branch, do you happen to know whether P1 would still be eligible for the promotion? The previous account was only open for one day, but the terms say eligibility returns 12 months after the most recent account closure.
Siva “ Only one offer [not account] per household.” P1 did not get the bonus, so P2 is not precluded from getting one.
