Our Verdict

Personally I’d have preferred the expired offer of $300 bonus on this card (plus Walmart+ membership which this current offer doesn’t have). But I thought it worth highlighting this offer for those who have interest in the 0% APR on balance transfers – something uncommon. (We occasionally see 0% on purchases, rarely on balance transfers.)

I’ll add this to our list of 0% APR cards. Just keep in mind that carrying a balance on a personal credit card can have big negative impact on your credit score.

It’s not necessarily worth using this card after you get the sign up bonus as there are other credit cards that offer a higher rate on everyday purchases, but the sign up bonus might be attractive to some people. NFCU is also offering a bonus of 40,000 points and Amazon Prime membership on the Flagship rewards card.

Navy Federal is only available for military and veterans – full eligibility information can be found here (plus family members. Even if they are deceased). Learn more about Navy Federal credit cards in the post Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) Credit Cards: List, Best Cards & Things You Must Know.

Newest-first by default, because “is it still working?” matters most.

I haven’t seen any DP’s on whether Navy Federal approves credit cards for ITIN holders. P2 was approved for a $500 limit CashRewards with an ITIN. Eligible for the $200 offer (and got the $50 new member bonus). Will be interesting to try to spend enough to qualify with such a low limit.

i don’t know if this is targeted. check your email if you have this card. “ Use your Navy Federal card ending in xxxx to pay 2 or more utility, insurance, internet, cable or phone bills, and you could earn: 6,000 bonus points*”

No, it means your purchases will incur interest, not the balance transfer.

MI
Mike#2338153

If you are new to NFCU, there is an extra $50 bonus that is available that stacks with the $250.

You can initiate the balance transfer by day 60 of the account opening to get the 0% APR (unless their policy recently changed, just having submitted a BT application by the 60 day deadline works, not needing the BT to fully have taken effect). So if you shoot for $2500 in purchases within like 55-59 days, then pay that off and apply for the BT you should be good for both the cash bonus and 0 APR period.

They are looking for a fake roommate, who is currently a member, so they can get membership.

Chuck seeing offer for this card in the NFCU app as a popup, it has been extended to 6/30. The Bal transfer APY is at 1.99% though but still no bal transfer fees.

Frustrated Frank the Tank What’s the right thread? I also got NFCU’d, looking for the right thread to post about it 🙂

Dang it I just missed this one. I’m making my app-o-rama list and this was on it…bad timing.

The balance transfer interest rate is no longer 0% and stands at 1.99%. The bonus offer remains the same at $250 for $2500 spend within 90 days.

That’s what it sounds like to me. In the past with other issuers I’ve found that if I pay the minimum due PLUS the amount I spent on purchases that cycle, I wouldn’t see interest on the card when there is a 0% BT revolving. My assumption would have been that it would be the same at NFCU, but the text you’ve quoted does seem to say different

Have you used the card for new purchases as well to hit the SUB? Do you have to pay the full balance each month, including the transferred balance, to avoid paying the regular interest rate on that balance? The sign-up page says ““If you transfer a balance, interest will be charged on purchases made with your credit card unless your purchases have a 0% APR, or you pay the entire balance (including any transferred balances) in full each month by the payment due date.”

JI
Jim#2022025

The fine print on the application page states “If you transfer a balance, interest will be charged on purchases made with your credit card unless your purchases have a 0% APR, or you pay the entire balance (including any transferred balances) in full each month by the payment due date.” Does this mean if we do a balance transfer, and also charge new purchases to the card, we would have to pay the full balance (including the transferred balance) to avoid getting charged the regular APR for purchases? Which means we can either use it for balance transfers or new purchases to hit the SUB, but if we do both, we lose the benefit of the 0% APR for 12 months on balance transfers?

How do they verify membership eligibility? Do they have their own process or use a third party?

I know wrong thread, but quick update on the $300 bonus. 1/1 approved for measly $500CL 1/11ish $300 bonus posted Im not sure how they make profit, but not a bad booby prize for $500CL

Good point. If you are already a member (or not, I suppose), look at the available cards. There are at least 3 with 0/0 offers at the moment.

PR
Private#1979796

Yeah, that’s what caught my eye. 0% on transfers is fairly common, OR 0% fees, BOTH is quite rare. Not sure I can (or want to ) do the $2500 spend in 90 days though. I have insurance premiums coming up in May, so I’ll wait and see if it gets a better bonus.

I was in the market for a balance transfer card, the 0% transfer fee sealed the deal for me. Applied and was approved for $25,000 line of credit. Thanks DOC.

Ok, that’s what I had thought, but thanks for clarifying.

Even if you’re referred by a random NFCU member you still have to meet the membership eligibility requirements to join.

AN
Another DP#1979062

If I do not qualify (no military ties/affiliations) to be a member of the NFCU then I cannot apply for this card, correct? Or, is it possible for an existing NFCU member to refer me (and hopefully score a referral bonus) and thus make me eligible? Will that work? TIA for any tips!

can you churn NFCU credit card SUBs?

DE
Dealgamer#1978712

Index Funds are kind of risky, if there’s a down year you’ll actually lose money. Better to put it into short term bonds or T-bills or an HYSA or something like that.

BR
Brittany#1978666

Should still be able to get the $300 bonus by cycling through the line 2x a month.
