Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

  • Simply Right has a $10 monthly Fee, waived with one transaction* – a deposit, withdrawal, transfer, or payment – posted during the calendar month.

Early Account Termination Fee

$25 if closed within 90 days

Our Verdict

Not as good as the last $500 bonus. Although the direct deposit requirement is lower for the $400 tier. In any case a lot of people try to cycle these santander bonuses so if you’re eligible it’s probably worth just taking this bonus as I doubt we will see anything better in the short term. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses. If you have issues with applying try using firefox.

Deposit $5k at account opening?

CH
Chris#2429030

This is the weirdest requirement I’ve ever seen. How are you expected to have a $5k balance starting from day 1?

If you still have the promo code from the April offer, you can use it. Probably. The April offer had the same bonus but required a direct deposit instead of an average balance. It had an expiration of 9/30/26 but when I tried to use it in a branch in August, their system said it was expired. But the manager was able to authorize some sort of override.

Acct successfully opened with Chex Frozen at a further away branch that i usually never go to last week. Although the systems kept glitching out when the rep was trying to print the paperwork, so it took a bit longer than expected(and i thought i was about to be caught red handed for freezing my reports). But things pulled through in the end with the code being attached. Although, i was in a hurry and got tf outta there after the rep helped me to deposit the 5k check, i left all the Santander Booklet/Paperwork in the branch. Something that usually never happens 99% of the time. LMAO

NY in branch open with code, last year bonus with closing in july. No issues with chex frozen They made me use a web app to scan my id through Experian to validate it.

I realized the terms said if opened on the weekend the first day is the next business day so if I open today, i think Monday is day 1 so i should be fine either way. Pretty sure average indicating i can just put in more.

With the new terms, its an average daily balance of 5k. So is it possible to open and not have $5k in the account for a couple of days and then deposit more than 5k to meet the requirements (whatever youd need to meet the average requirement, say I did 6k?). Or do you NEED $5k in the account on day 1 opening?

Our tax bracket isn’t high enough to lose 30% to the gov but even if it was, it’s still free money.

Jeez, where did all the branches go?! I’m almost an hour away from one now.

Harry Hmm, I will actually be driving through NH during my trip. If you feel comfortable doing so, can you let me know which specific branch this was?

RM
RM#2367071

Harry Do you feel comfortable sharing which state this branch is in? I am going to try to open while on a trip to the East Coast and apparently not all branches are OK with frozen Chex, so trying to stack the odds in my favor.

RM
RM#2367063

Super Pirate formerly SP In which state are the branches that you know of that don’t insist on pulling Chex located? I’ll be on the East Coast in early August and would try for this bonus if I could do it with Chex frozen, but don’t have time to try more than a couple of branches during my trip, so trying to narrow things down in advance.

With $5k requirement and practically no interest on the money, this needs to be $450+ IMO

S.O 🔗 Zili yea, i think the higher ups are catching on to us 🫣 Santander’s personal bonuses have always never had a deposit balance needed for like the past 4 years I’ve been churning with them. Just 5k Direct Deposit and 1 transaction monthly to waive the fees. it’s still a pretty good offer, but yeah, the annoying part is locking up the 5k. And i hate the terms not having a set amount of what the DD needs to be. A scummy tactic that they can use to not payout if shit really hits the fan.

Sweepster Sweepster @ Sweepster Pickle Rick🔗 I think he got confused by thinking or & and were in the same verbal language and he realized he f’d up and made himself look like a damn fool. But it was already too late to edit it by then LMAO

Same scenario, except P2 and I opened in branch and rep assured us promo code was attached. Used some Fidelity CMA as partial DD, rest was legit ($4,300 of $5k was legit). Based on Fidelity DP from others the date for promo bonus deposit came and went a month ago. I emailed the rep that opened for us and she confirmed in writing that we did earn it but it wouldn’t post until end of October or November. Seems to contradict their own terms but we’ll give it some more time. What a pain.
