Shame about the hard pull, but if you don’t care about that then this is a really good bonus and easy to meet the requirements for. We will add this to our list of the best checking promotions.

I saw the same thing for the BERWICK250 promotion. > To receive $250 bonus, open a checking account, enroll in e statements, make 5 debit card transactions and have $500 or more in eligible monthly direct deposits within 90 days of the checking account opening date. $250 cash bonus will be deposited into the checking account within 14 days of meeting requirements. > Eligible direct deposits are defined as electronic Automated Clearing House (ACH) deposits. Examples include, but are not limited to, payroll, Social Security, pension, and other government benefit payments. Deposits made through a teller, ATM, or the Telhio mobile app do not qualify as direct deposits. I have seen other promotions requiring “monthly” direct deposits that don’t actually require the deposits to be made monthly. But I’m not willing to risk it so I’ll be doing $500 deposits in more than one month. The terms seem to indicate that virtually any ACH transfer to Telhio would meet the definition of an “eligible direct deposit”.
Yes I do have an account. they do soft pull with chex. Let me know if you need referral.
The terms state you must “ have $500 or more in eligible monthly direct deposits within 90 days of the checking account opening date”. Any thoughts on if one single $500 direct deposit will trigger the bonus, or if it has to be recurring over multiple months since it says “monthly”?
They do a soft pull and chex
It was a soft pull on credit but did pull chex. However I opened in 2024 with the first promotion so I’m not sure if things have changed.
You must have an account! Can you confirm whether they do a hard or soft pull on credit? And, do they pull Chex??
You must have an account! Can you confirm whether they do a hard or soft pull on credit? And, do they pull Chex?
“Verdict” section of the post says “Shame about the hard pull”. I realize that information might be quite old so I will ask, can anyone that has opened recently confirmed whether they do a hard or soft pull on credit? And, do they pull Chex?

William Charles $500 Direct Deposit is required for the bonus. You may want to update the title. Open a new Basic, Choice, or Prime Checking Account by July 31, 2026 , using promo code BERWICK250 and within 90 days: • Enroll in e-statements • Make 5 debit card purchases • Receive at least $500 in eligible direct deposits

Yeah I wouldn’t either
Thanks for sharing, don’t think I’ll post due to the poor return
$500/$1000 business checking bonus with $50k/$100k deposits, exp 5/31. Only like 4% APY in the end, I don’t think any of their biz checking accounts bear any interest. https://www.telhio.org/business/checking
I’m the opposite of you guys – I only got a single $50 gift card. Oh well onto the next one..
@Adam K & Others: P2 and P1 (myself) closed our accounts today over the phone. Some notes while it’s fresh in my mind: The online chat person will tell you it has to be closed in branch. It does not; over the phone is fine. Press #8 and then #2 to get to a person. I had $300 in there from July 24 2024 – Jan 24 2024. On the morning on Jan 24th I pushed from Telhio to CapOne 360 checking (I had set this external account up when I opened the account). I noticed Saturday morning the Telhio checking was at $0.00 and CapOne showed the $300 had arrived, so I closed Sat the 25th. They run their $6 per month fee on the last day of the month. So if you move your money out and want to close, make sure that doesn’t overlap the last business day of the month else you’ll get hit with a $6 fee. It also sounds like this account one cannot just 0 out and walk away – they have a 12 month “dormant fee” that I didn’t want to test if they actually do this. When you close over the phone, they will email you a docusign that asks questions almost like a credit check (vehicles & addresses you’re associated with). All 3 bureaus + Chexsystems for us are frozen and did not need to be thawed. Lastly, their mailing the $5 check. Hope this helps someone. About 45 minutes of work total + the loss of $600 ($300 x 2) for $500 total. Not bad.
I just called and was told by a rep that to close both my checking and savings would require a visit to the branch. He was able to send me a DocuSign form to consolidate and close my checking account. Frustrating. I guess I will close my entire account the next time I am near a branch. P2 is going to be frustrated to have to deal with.
Closing the accounts – what firing order is everyone doing? P1 + P2 both got their bonuses – now at the 6 month mark. Ready to close. We each have the required $5 in their CU share account, and each of us has $300 to avoid the monthly fee. Do I zero out the account and then close? I’m worried about an immediate $6 charge. It’s cold here in Ohio and too lazy to drive over to the branch.
I saw this post and was able to replicate your success. P1 got 250 bonus. Referred P2, received 3*$50 gift card. Then P2 250 bonus posted. TY.
DP 7/24: applied online with code “CHECK250”. Address in SWO. Attempted funding with Discover debit. App went pending with follow up email to choose a different funding method (Discover not accepted apparently). 7/25: No formal email re: accounting approval, but received a Docusign email that included an account number, so approved. Yay! 7/27: enrolled in eStatements. 8/7 – 8/8: 5x $1 Apple Cash debit loads 10/28: $250 “CHECK250 Promotion Granted”, which is 95 days from account opening and contrary to terms which said 90 days.
@cb if you want then you can refer me. I already opened the account but we may still get our $100’s. It’s worth a try.. anyone else can refer me if they message faster.
@Kyle how does one confirm a soft pull?
What’s strange is the wording from the referral page; sounds as if it should be $100, not $50? “$100 For You, $100 For Them – Telhio Credit Union Checking AccountOnce your friend or family member registers, opens a new checking account AND completes the following requirements within 60 days after account opening, you will BOTH receive a $100 Visa® Reward Card! Has an active Telhio Credit Union debit card, AND Enrolls in electronic statements Your friend can earn a $100 Visa Reward Card! Please allow up to 4-6 weeks, after completing all requirements of this offer, for delivery of your Reward Card.”
Applied and accepted as a resident of southwest Ohio. Maximum of $2,500 per account and total of $5,000 is permitted on Mastercards (debit or credit). I was immediately charged $2,500 for the Checking, and $2,500 for the savings on my C1 Savor card upon approval without issue or inquiry.
William Charles here’s another version of the promo – https://www.telhio.org/check250 Only differences are that the code is “ CHECK250 “, and that the account must be opened by 9/30/2024 (a month or so later than the “fair250” code)
Matt Yes! I closed my previous account in Jan 2024. Opened it in June of 2023 so kept it open for 6+ months. Opened again with a different promo code and different email on 04/09/24 exactly 3 months after previous close. Surprisingly received the bonus on 7/12/24. Honesty wasn’t expecting the bonus to post but figured with easy requirements I would give it another shot.
Fixed, thanks
