The Fine Print
- The tiered bonus of $200 to $400 applies to individuals who open a Libre Account during the period from April 16, 2026 through December 31, 2026, and who do not maintain individual deposit accounts with Oriental Bank either in the month the account is opened or in the month prior to opening the account.
- To qualify for the bonus, direct deposits corresponding to payroll payments, Social Security or pension/retirement benefits of $1,500.00 or more per cycle must be scheduled and received for three (3) consecutive cycles into the Cuenta Libre after the account is opened and within the established promotional period.
- The customer has up to six (6) cycles from the account opening date to complete the three (3) consecutive qualifying direct deposit cycles.
- The account must be open at the time the bonus is credited.
- The bonus will be credited in the next cycle after the requirements are met and will be determined based on the average total of qualifying direct deposits received during the three (3) consecutive cycles within the promotional period, according to the following direct deposit tiers: $1,500.00-$2,499.99 qualifies for a $200 bonus; $2,500.00-$4,999.99 qualifies for a $300 bonus; $5,000.00 or more qualifies for a $400 bonus. Limit of one bonus per customer, who must be the primary account holder.
- The bonus is not valid with other promotions or offers and may not be combined, accumulated, or used in conjunction with any other bonus or offer.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
I was unable to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF.
Our Verdict
Normally we wouldn’t really post Puerto Rico bonuses but this did seem OOS for a bit?

Bonus posts at the end of the 4th statement cycle (after 3 consecutive DDs of $1.5k+ per statement cycle). Statement cycles end on the 15th of each month so your 4th statement cycle end is 10/15
You’re all good. Your bonus should post on 10/15, since you had DDs for the 7/15, 8/15, and 9/15 cycles.
Still trying to understand the original offer terms… Mind sharing your DD dates on those months? Personally I opened on 6/10, and had DD on 6/25, 7/25, 8/25. Waiting for bonus now
It depends if you count the first stub cycle as one of the six cycles for the original offer. I opened my account a few days before the 6/15 cycle posted. If you count that cycle as the first of the six, then I don’t have enough time to fulfill the three of six. If the stub cycle doesn’t count, then I can still fulfill the 10/15, 11/15, 12/15 cycles. If the 12/15 cycle doesn’t count as one of the six, I can get the bonus under the new, current offer.
I am on month 3. It says you have up to 6 months. So I have enough time to correct my DD to the cycle dates. If you would not have posted this I would have messed up – thank you
Just to make sure you saw, you should be able to restart now and qualify. The current bonus states it’s open to existing customers.
Funny, I just opened an account at a bank that does that — Webster Bank. Not sure of the reasoning, but it’s a better system at least than when the cycle renews in a certain time of the calendar month but on fluctuating dates…
Huh, so it’s changed to be open to existing customers now. Nice! William Charles
I tried to see if I can open an account OOS now, after the DoC effect wore off, but it really is impossible. For the address you can only select PR from the dropdown.
Just not really our audience, if there is demand I’ll start posting them
I looked at this account in the past and there were a lot of fees including fees to make a deposit or withdrawal. Look carefully and talk to a banker. It is only for PR residents. I live here and banking is not like the states.
You obviously missed the /s
Puerto Rico is a US territory and uses the US dollar as currency. There is no such thing as a Puerto Rico dollar.
weekend beach trip anyone?
“Founded in 1964, Oriental (“Eastern” in English) is one of the Commonwealth’s largest banks, and is solely focused on serving the needs of Puerto Rico’s consumers and businesses.”
I would like to visit your fair commonwealth one day!
Did this last year when it was $300 (I think). Had to open checking and savings online. Used Fidelity CMA and received the bonus. Kept the checking and closed the savings, had to go in branch to close the savings account.
Are those US dollars or Puerto Rican dollars? /s
