The Offer

- Discover is offering some cardholders a bonus of $25 when you add an authorized user and make a purchase (no minimum) by November 30, 2020
The Fine Print
- Valid until November 30, 2020
Our Verdict
Better than previous Discover authorized user bonuses that required $3,000 in spend. Worth doing if targeted.

Update: Added AU using link in email. $50 cashback paid out at the end of that same statement period. The $50 is categorized as “everywhere else” in the breakdown of cashback earned (5%, 1%, and everywhere else), BUT it is included in the “cashback match” amount. So they should match it after the year is up, turning $50 into $100.
William Charles , Its back with exp date of 10/02/2026
Targeted for $50 AU offer by email today (7/30), “You’re eligible [name]: Add an Authorized User to earn an extra $50 cash back “… “Just add an Authorized User and make a purchase by 10/2/2026.” I’m in my first year so theoretically the $50 should be”matched” and essentially be $100. For anyone wondering about who gets targeted, FWIW my 7th statement just cut, I just had a CLI request approved, and this card gets heavy usage. Of course, the targeting could be completely random too. A couple questions I couldn’t find clear answers to in the comments: 1. If I add an AU can I later refer that same person and receive the referral bonus? Assuming these offers will disappear once account is migrated to C1, so thinking of adding an AU even if they become ineligible for referral bonus. 2. Does it matter how I add the AU? Do I need to use the link in the email or can I do it from anywhere on the website?
Thanks. Yes, you’re right, promo end-date was the same in email and original offer.
Its probably an automated email (doesn’t track if you did it or not) — limit still applies so if the May promo email you got has the same 7/3 end date then its the same promo so you won’t be able to do it again until a new promo comes out after July
Twice now, including today, Discover has sent me reminder emails about this bonus. I received the bonus offer on May 7, added an auth user, made the required spend in May, received the $50 bonus on my end-of-May statement, and removed the auth user in early June. Is this just a case of the left hand (Discover’s Marketing Dept) not knowing what the right hand is doing (Discover’s Bonus Pay-Out Dept)? Or is it possible that I could lather, rinse and repeat before the offer expires on July 3? Anyone else who already completed the bonus still receiving reminder emails?
Update: $50 in points came through!
Following up. P2 added a family member and made a purchase. $50 reward showed up very next statement. Happy to report I received an email yesterday for the same offer. So may be targeting more folks again?
Its added to your rewards balance when statement closes
How long did it take to get the $50 credit after purchase on primary card? I did the same, but wondering if I have to wait for statement close to see the credit.
I tried to find the reason but ended up dejected
First time I’ve gotten this offer. I removed P2 as AU, activated offer, added P2 as AU, and made a purchase. Will update if $50 credit comes through.
Had this card since the beginning of 2023, only offer(s) I ever got was like 2 low apr offers.
Family member got email on 4/30 and I got an email on 5/6 — both were for “add AU and make any purchase by 7/3 for $50 bonus”
Got it on mine this time. P2 got it the last round. Hardly use Discover unless this offer rolls around.
Lucky people get selected The rest of us just get rejected … that’s the rhyme
I would like to know as well!
Anyone know the rhyme or reason (algorithm) behind who gets selected?
William Charles My P2 received an email for this offer but not myself. So targeted offer being sent out again.
I can report it worked for both cards. An online purchase w/ existing card triggers it
Just got this email Earn $50 Cashback Bonus® Kevin, just add an Authorized User and make a purchase by 7/3/2026.1
Curious how long after adding a AU and making a purchase do people see the $50 credit? Does it appear at the end of the first statement after the purchase usually? tia I sent a card to my dog while I’m overseas but should probably cancel the AU card asap
If you have this offer for multiple cards, can you do the $50 offer for each card?
I didn’t test it. I waited until I received the AU card, and activated it, and then made a purchase with the primary card. That’s still very easy.
Inadvertently on the same day yea. Haven’t used my card since then. I just notice 50$ added to my cashback balance so I assume it’s from this.
sunny wow.. did you make a purchase with your normal card after ordering the AU card but before the AU card arrived? tia
sg77 did you ever test this? I’m wondering the exact same thing! thanks in advance
Basically, we don’t need to activate the AU card? We just need to order it? I’m traveling overseas so can’t activate it but sent a card to my dog in the mail. Just wanna make sure it doesn’t need to be activated. I’m just going to make a small purchase for the $50 bonus without the AU card activated first? Otto Voyager
Dp- got the 50$ credit, even before getting the authorized card delivered.
The term says “ just add an Authorized User and make a purchase”. But I always make the purchase on the AU card just in case.
