Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

This account has a $12 monthly fee, this is waived with any of the following:

  • Maintain a balance of $500 or more each day
  • Have a total of $500 in monthly deposits reflect on your monthly statement (Internal transfers from other FNBT/FCB or FHNB accounts, Internet Banking transfers, and refunds from the Bank do not qualify as deposits for waiving the Monthly Maintenance Fee),
  • Have 12 debit card purchases that reflect on your monthly statement as POS (Point-of-Sale) transactions. (ATM transactions and person-toperson payments through third party apps do not count towards the 12 debit card purchases)
  • Be age 60 or older.

Early Account Termination Fee

I didn’t see any mention of an EATF in the fee schedule.

Our Verdict

Not to be confused with First National Bank of Texas Update: untrue. Seems like a relatively easy bonus and always nice when you can sneak in a bonus without a Chexsystems inquiry (or at least they will approve if your report is frozen). Will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

Yeah that’s what the terms say, but then there’s this DP: #2414040

Got a while to wait I’m afraid. Deposit Receive $2,500 or more in qualifying direct deposits within the first 60 banking days after account opening. After the 60-day qualification period, you’ll receive your bonus at 120 banking days from the opening date if your account is open and in good standing when the bonus is applied.

when i opened in branch with a mailer back in January, bank manager said i had to open a savings account too even though that was not a condition of the mailer. manager opened a second checking account but called it a savings. he set up monthly auto transfers of $5 between my checking and “savings’ (checking#2). i never saw a fee for the secondary account. or primary account for that matter.

Monty I believe you said you opened the savings account too. Did you get hit with a monthly fee on it recently? I was charged a $2.50 minimum balance fee, which surprised me because I thought I just needed a single automatic transfer to savings once per month to waive any monthly fee(s). Looking this morning I can’t find anything about that, and appears the only fee is a minimum balance fee. It looks like minimum balance is $20 but I’d only been keeping $5 in there because I was I guess incorrectly assuming the monthly automatic transfer was all I needed.

I did a payroll deposit from Cap1 Biz for the $2500 needed for FDD. Went in person at my HEB, asked to withdraw $2k in cash, required a “selfie” with webcam, asked the manager if it was necessary and they said it is required for each new account. Left and deposited into PNC, then transferred to my primary bank account at Schwab.

Wow. Are you our first bonus? I opened 8/5, fake DD from Cap One Biz 8/6 (posted as transaction type direct deposit), and no bonus for me.

Ended up going in branch and taking out cash; they are found in local HEB’s. Weird thing is they made me take a picture for my profile.

Although not completely clear, I think this was supposed to be a mailer only situation and targeted, based on the URL and the following line: Offer cannot be reproduced, purchased, sold, transferred, or traded. If the offer is changed or discontinued, it will be noted on our website at https://1stnb.com/mc-mail . G/L to those who are trying for it. Might work out just fine. No Chex = no problem. I would if I could, but the form won’t accept my OOS address. It validates the sate before submitting it, so no harm in trying.
