The U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa Business Card offers a $100 software credit for recurring software subscription expenses. To trigger the credit you need 11 consecutive months of eligible software subscription expenses. The fine print is as follows:

An automatic statement credit of $100 per 12-month period will be applied to your Account within two (2) statement billing cycles following 11 consecutive months of eligible software service purchases made directly with a software service provider. Eligible software service providers are identified by their Merchant Category Code (MCC) and purchases made at discount/retail stores or online retailers may not qualify. We do not determine the category codes that merchants choose and reserve the right to determine which Purchases qualify. We reserve the right to adjust or reverse any portion or all of any software services credit for unauthorized purchases or transaction credits. Account must be in good standing (open and able to use) to receive the credit.

What Works & Doesn’t Work?

For it to work it needs to have the merchant category code: 5734 “Computer Software Stores”.

Works:

The following have triggered the credit:

  • 1Password: 1, 2,
  •  Adobe
    • Acrobat Pro: 1,
    • Creative Cloud: 1,
    • Lightroom Classic: 1,
  • Anthropic Claude: 1,
  • BitWarden: 1 (can make this profitable by using the monthly teams plan that costs $4 per month)
  • Brave Search Premium: 1,
  • Cardpointers: 1 2 (didn’t work), 3 (didn’t work),
  • ChatGPT: 1,
  • Claude API: 1,
  • Cloudflare: 1,
  •  Code42 / CrashPlan Pro: 1, (no longer works)
  • CubeBackup: 1,
  • Fastmail: 1,
  • FreshBooks (given as an example on website)
  • Hurricane Tracker: 1 (paid through PayPal)
  • Inoreader: 1, 2,
  • Kagi search: 1,
  • MaxMyPoint: 1,
  • Midjourney: 1,
  • Mullvad: 1,
  • NextNDS: 1,
  • Ninite: Ninite, 1,
  • NordVPN: 1 (e-mail received, unsure on credit)
  •  NumberBarn: 1, 2 (might not work anymore)
  • Protonmail: 1, 2 (doesn’t work anymore), 3 (doesn’t work anymore)
  • QuickBooks (given as an example on website)
  • Remember the milk: 1,
  • seats.aero: 1,
  • Shopify: 1,
  • Simplefin: 1,
  • Turbotax: 1,
  • Vent Works: 1,
  • Xero: 1,

Doesn’t work:

  • Backblaze: 1,
  • Canva: 1,
  • Datto: 1,
  • Discord Nitro Basic: 1,
  • Dreamhost: 1,
  • Emisoft: 1,
  • ExpertFlyer: 1,
  • Google:
    • One: 1,
    • Domains: 1,
    • Workspace: 1,
  • Green Geeks: 1,
  • Microsoft 365: 1,
  • Namecheap: 1,
  • Remember the milk: 1,
  • Simplelogin: 1,
  • Todoist: 1,
  • Torbox: 1,

Profitable Ways To Use The Credit

Getting the $100 credit only requires a monthly charge, there is no minimum and you get the full credit. This can make it profitable. For example if you sign up for

  • BitWarden’s business team plan you pay $5 per month ($60 over 12 months) for a $40 profit. BitWarden is not on any portals.

How To Determine The Category Code Of A Purchase

  • Download CSV of transactions
  • Open CSV
  • Look for memo column, MCC is the last four digits. For example: 05734

If anybody finds a better one than this let us know in the comments.

Calendar Month Versus Statement Date

Based on reader reports, this credit seems to use the calendar month to determine the 11 charges. When you’re signing up for a service, don’t sign up near the end of the month since that can result in some charges being pushed to the future month. For example, if you sign up on the 29th, then some months the charge might end up posting on the first and you’ll lose out on the credit. AFAIK, statement date cut offs do not matter, so if your statement date is the 10th, you can still sign up around the 10th without issue.

Newest-first by default, because “is it still working?” matters most.

Has anyone tried Sofi Plus subscription?

Frey#2422381

you could try tagging that person and see if it continued to work or be the DP to try it yourself.

Thanks. I did the search, but only saw one post saying Shopify worked, the post was in 2024.

Search the comments for Shopify? People usually post what works and what doesn’t.

Github LFS storage codes as Hosting 07372, sadly.I presume probably all Github services code as the same.

SA My DP was for ProtonVPN if that helps. Both Mail and VPN have billed the same way for me so didn’t think to note that.

Have you already received the credit though using this method? Down below I made this point, but my credit month isn’t until December, so I haven’t confirmed that it’s seen as a subscription, just that it meets the 5734 condition.

I didn’t meant card anniversary. I meant from the perspective of when your first payment month is, that after a year of consecutive payments you’ll get it on the anniversary of your initial payment. Unclear on my part. But also wrong if it’s only 11 months needed.

Rep/supervisor had to go through each charge to confirm it matched the category code, then they submit a request to the rewards team. A mistake the reps and the rewards team commonly made was thinking the transaction code is the category code (which obviously didn’t match the software code of 5734) which caused the request to be initially denied. Only after I explained the error to a supervisor did she resubmit the request with clear instructions for the reward team.

Chuck just to update, it did mess it up since it posted the next month. After escalating a few times I finally got it manually applied however you should definitely put a note to have the billing date towards the middle of the month to avoid such issues.

I did it this month with 2 cards and both coded as 5734

Are you still seeing it code as 5734? It did for me last month, then I tried a different GC and it’s coding as 5732

KA
Karl#2385185

Thanks for the heads up! Mine posted as 5724 on 7/31/26. That puts the switch between 8/1 and 8/5. Looks like I’m already hosed though. Just noticed SimpleFIN billed me twice in June. August would have been month 11. And they got me on this card last year too when NumberBarn switched codes in month 10. 🙁 Thinking it might be a good idea to go with 2 subscriptions per card. And make sure they both post mid-month. Live and learn.

Doesn’t seem to match the approved MCC code according to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/1uixqvd/dp_us_bank_triple_cash_business_card_100_software/

Anyone try X aka Twitter? I currently use grok for the monthly sub but thinking of switching to X premium to get the X card.

I do appreciate the feature to archive things. Though this really shouldn’t be a paid feature.

Do all 11 months need to be at the same merchant? Or can I switch partway through, as long as each month has at least one purchase with the right MCC?

MA
Matty#2373819

Can confirm – it’s 11 consecutive calendar months, with the clock starting in whatever month you make the first purchase.

LA
Lauren#2369997

I think that FIREproofme, a financial planning (retirement) tool, is covered under that merchant code. Probably other tools like it are as well, I’d guess.

By the time you had ten months, did you “keep” using numberbarn and thought it was 5734? And then didnt find out until later? Did you get a courtesy?
