- Only one $2,500 bonus may be applied per upgraded account or new Premier Checking account. Limit one bonus per customer.
- You are not eligible for this offer if: You have received a bonus for opening a Wells Fargo Premier Checking account within the past 12 months or if you are a Wells Fargo employee.

- Qualifying linked accounts include (a) bank deposit account balances (checking, savings, time accounts (CDs), FDIC-insured IRAs) and (b) investment account balances (brokerage available through our brokerage affiliate Wells Fargo Advisors, and eligible foreign exchange transactions). Excludes applicable bank fiduciary and custody accounts, and annuities.
- Wells Fargo Advisors: Brokerage products and services are offered through Wells Fargo Advisors. Wells Fargo Advisors is a trade name used by Wells Fargo Clearing Services, LLC (WFCS) and Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, LLC, Members SIPC, separate registered broker-dealers and non-bank affiliates of Wells Fargo & Company. Certain brokerage accounts are not eligible.
- We will deposit your bonus into your Premier Checking account within 30 days after you have met all offer requirements.
- The Premier Checking account must be open at the time we attempt to deposit any earned bonus payment. Please note that an account with a zero balance may be closed by us without prior notice, as further described in the Deposit Account Agreement.
- Interest on the Premier Checking account is compounded daily and paid monthly. The amount of interest earned is based on the daily collected balances in the account. The following Annual Percentage Yields (APYs) are accurate as of November 25, 2022. The account pays an APY of 0.25% if the balance is $0–$99,999.99 and 0.50% if the balance is $100,000 or more. Rates are variable and subject to change without notice. Fees could reduce earnings on this account.

- Reproduced, purchased, sold, transferred, or traded.
- The actions required to earn this bonus are separate and distinct from the options available to you to avoid any applicable monthly service fee for the checking account you upgraded to.
- You are responsible for any federal, state, or local taxes due on the bonus and we will report as income to the tax authorities if required by applicable law (form 1099). Consult your tax advisor.
Avoiding Fees
The Premier Checking account has a $35 monthly service fee (fee is waived first six months). The fee can be avoided each fee period with $250,000 or more in statement-ending qualifying linked (a) bank deposit account balances (checking, savings, time accounts (CDs), FDIC-insured IRAs) and (b) investment account balances.
Initial monthly service fee waiver: We’ll waive the monthly service fee for each fee period ending within the first 64 days of opening.
Regarding investing: it looks like there is a $95 $49.95 (pdf)when you transfer out all of your investments and terminate your account. I suppose you can just leave there $1 indefinitely to avoid this fee (?). (See this link > “account maintenance fees”.) (Some readers say you need to leave at least $95 or maybe $125 in order to avoid the fee.)
Our Verdict
Since this offer is available for both new accounts and upgrades, the best play here would be to open a new Wells Fargo ordinary checking account online and get a $325 bonus with $1,000 direct deposit. Then (after the bonus posts), go to a Wells Fargo branch and upgrade to a Premier relationship. Then, sometime in the next 45 days, transfer over $250,000 in cash or assets and leave it there until day 90. The fine print seems clear that you can get the Premier offer so long as you have not done a Premier checking offer in the past 12 months, even if you did a standard checking offer in the past 12 months. Just be aware that Wells bonuses take a full 90 days to post, so you’re risking the $2,500 offer expiring while you wait for the $325 to post.
The Wells Fargo Premier checking account earns an interest rate of .01%.
It looks like Wells Fargo has a self-directed investment option, and you can ACAT transfer over any ETFs (and possibly mutual funds) from another brokerage, and that would work toward the $250,000 qualifier. You can also buy U.S. Treasuries, brokered CDs, or other safe mutual funds which would earn top interest rates as well, see our post: Utilizing Money Market Funds & Treasury Bills For Brokerage Bonuses. Some suggest WMPXX. And I believe some have reported getting confirmation that retirement investing accounts can work to meet the $250,000 requirement as well.
Let’s break down the math for those who want to do this bonus with a cash transfer and for those who want to use the Wells Fargo investment arm:
- Cash Deposit Option: deposit $250,000 in cash for around 46 days. Let’s just round it up and say you’re money will be in transit for 2 months, you’ll still be getting around 6% return for those two months, plus the regular .50% interest. That’s a solid couple percentage points above what you’d earn from a regular high interest savings account. You can also open a savings account earning 3.25% making the deal significantly better, see this comment.
- Investment Deposit Option: I have no experience with Wells Fargo investing, but hopefully you can easily move over your ETF investments and easily earn the $2,500 without much work. Or you can move cash into your Wells brokerage account and buy up money market funds that will earn around the same amount as a high yield savings account. Again, you’ll net the full $2,500 bonus without any trade-offs. (Just be sure to deposit more than $250,000 of investments in case the assets lose value and your balance dips below $250k.)
Possibly you’ll get hit with one $35 fee on your way out. And then there’s also the above-mentioned$95$49.95 ACAT-out fee if you transfer out all of your investments. You need to make sure your investment accounts are linked to Premier Checking
Separately, there’s also now a $525 Wells Fargo in-branch savings bonus as well. Multiple readers heard from their banker that the $25k won’t stack with the $250k offer. In reality it probably will stack.
We’ll add this to our list of Best Bank Bonuses and Best Brokerage Bonuses. If you did this bonus before and are doing it again, you can use the same brokerage account as the first time. It’s just the checking account that needs to be closed and then opened again in branch with the banker applying the promo code to the new checking account. Some suggest waiting 3 months after closing before opening again.

The link errors out, is this deal deal?
If the link errors out try copying and pasting the link into your browser. You can also try opening it in incognito mode to see if that makes it work.

Called and got a great agent who was looked and said system said ineligible and she couldn’t understand why. All requirements are met. I think I know now why it happened – wired in 250K on july 31(friday) and it showed up same day on wellstrade. Bought treasury same day. Treasury buy shows a 7/31 activity date while wire settled on monday 8/3 I ended july with a debit balance. None of this should matter but it tripped the system, Hopefully a manual review fixes it. Best to ACAT in or wait to invest even if funds look available to invest.

Did this work? I didn’t come across the comments you’re referencing! Interested.
I don’t suppose I can game the bonus by transferring out my WellsTrade assets first before opening the premier checking, then after starting the promo, ACATS it all back into WF – within just 30 days of the transfer out? That would be wild if it worked.
phew! I was afraid they discontinued it. Going in for a 4th
You could be waiting forever. We don’t know the savings bonus will come back. Multiple hours? I’m in and out in 30 minutes.
gonna wait for the coupling saving bonus. otherwise, cornering by a group of various branch nannies/juries for multiple hours makes this a torturing deal
You can definitely double-dip by opening and upgrading an Everyday Checking first. Day 1: May 22nd – Opened Everyday Checking Day 7: May 29th – Competed DD Requirements Day 12: June 3rd – Received $400 Bonus (*this* is why I like WF) Day 26: June 17th – Upgraded Everyday To Premier Day 56: July 17th – Wired $250k To Checking (my error, I thought it was 30 days, not 45) Day 57: July 18th – Opened Platinum Savings (3.25 APY for one year) Day 59: July 20th – Transferred $250k To Linked Savings (stupid weekends, had to wait until Monday) Day 119: September 18th – Received $2500 Bonus Summary: 119 days for $2900 ($2500 + $400) while earning 3.20+ percent on the funds on the back half of this run (albeit that is an approximate ‘loss’ of about $160 per month versus what it was earning). However, I more than made up for that by also doing a couple of credit cards during those branch visits since, you know, I was already there. 🙂
Oh nice! That is exactly what I was looking for but it looks like they have changed that to something else now. It is the last option in there now. “Link accounts to avoid the monthly service fee”. I just saw right accounts were linked. Banker did that correctly.
Open Everyday first. It can be the same day but I personally spaced openings a day apart. You’re honestly better off just signing up for Everyday, getting the bonus a week or two later, then upgrading in branch.
It’s less complicated now. It made sense when it took a couple months for the Everyday bonus to post but now it only takes a week or two. The best move is to upgrade. This way, you’re not left having to fulfill reqs for two accounts to waive monthly fees. I wish I knew before this cycle but now I’ll be stuck with two Everyday checking accounts.
From online banking, click on: Premier Checking name > View Benefits > Manage linked accounts
I remember linking my WellsTrade account to premier checking last year online. I can’t locate that option anymore. Am I missing something or have they really removed that option to do online? Inputs appreciated. Thanks!
Has anyone’s bonus posted recently? Upgraded on Jul 1 and usually its quick after 90 days
maintain for 45 days not 90 days. 90 day is the mark from account opening date.
They have 30 days from DAY 90 to pay the bonus. The $250K balance is required from DAY 45 – DAY 90. An example DP is here: #2382798 Luckily, they don’t make you wait very long after DAY 90 .
You misread the terms. You have to maintain a balance of 250K or more for 90 days.
Probably WF Everyday Checking & Chase. Same thing I saw this month. No WF Premier Coupon.
Anything for 5/3? I’ll take it off your hands. Lol
You can check the visit summary in your online banking documents area. They are now paperless and it should have something mentioned about coupon applied. I would call two different CS on premier support number to confirm that coupon is really applied to the upgrade.
Received ValPack today in mail in Orange County, CA but all the bank promos are 400-500 coupons. This 2500 coupon is not in the pack. I hope they come back again next month.
I’m in very similar situation Tanya I suspect it’s just the protocol for upgrades. I recently upgraded my Everyday in branch and the “A customized summary of your visit” doesn’t show the actual code. Same as Relax and Smile , my Premier upgrade summary just shows “A validated Bonus Code has been added” Or perhaps just a change to their in branch openings? When I previously opened in branch, both Everyday and Premier, the banker provided a printed app with the promo code. This time around, for my Everyday checking opened in branch, they only provided a summary that states the same “A validated Bonus Code has been added” without the full app.
Thank you Frey and Relax and Smile for replying. The reason for my question is, before upgrading to Premier I did the Everyday checking offer and for that promo my banker gave me a paper showing my promo code and I also received a confirmation email from WF a few days later. I just looked over my paperwork and there’s nothing that has my Premier promo code on it. Still can’t get a hold of my banker but I intend to get everything checked out before transferring in any funds.
My 2026 experience says 94-95 days after opening. In past it use to be 103 days.
if anyone has an extra valpak coupon code I’d appreciate it. would be willing to use other referral codes for brokerage/bank bonuses
Code has been claimed
tried upgrading my wells fargo everyday to premier but didn’t work since account is less than a year they don’t allow upgrades. anyone experience this and did you open new account as a result?
Thanks cak145 Google searches showed the 188 days, but I didn’t see it on the Premier checking page. Glad it’s detailed in the actual disclosures. Upgraded an Everyday checking to Premier last week and the banker verified the six months waiver applies to both upgrades and new accounts, but I neglected to research it myself
See page 3 towards the middle of the page. https://www.wellsfargo.com/fetch-pdf?formNumber=CNS2013&subProductCode=ANY “Initial monthly service fee waiver for Premier Checking accounts only: We’ll waive the monthly service fee for each fee period ending within the first 188 days of opening.”
Does anyone know if Wells fargo still waives the monthly fee for premier client for first 6 months? i can’t seem to find that wording anymore
